WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST DENTAL CHECK UP

Your first check up at Academy Dental Care will take longer than a regular check up. This will include:
R

Discussion

We take the time to listen to any concerns or aspirations that you have about your smile. Most people are surprised about the time and attention that they receive.
R

This is to assess the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. Many patients comment on how thorough we are!

R

This is to detect any underlying cavities or decay. Small X-rays are taken for new patients at this appointment.

R

Soft tissue screening

An oral cancer screen using advance fluorescent light technology at no extra cost.
Education and advice – to provide you with useful hints and tips that will help you look after your oral health every day. All patients receive a bespoke treatment plan if required.

OTHER TREATMENTS AVAILABLE DURING DENTAL CHECK-UPS

Whist our general check up appointments are mostly focusing on preventative dentistry, some of the treatments that might be necessary include:

Fillings

A white filling will be used to repair a cavity or any decay in your tooth. Colour-matched to your other teeth, this will naturally blend in.

Dental crown

A crown sits on top of a damaged tooth and gives it protection from further harm.

Dental extraction

If your tooth is damaged or needs to be removed to protect the health of the other teeth it will need to be extracted. It can also be extracted for planned treatment such as dental implants or teeth straightening. Rest assured this is a painless and fast treatment using local anaesthetic.

MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNT SCHEME

We recommend you join our membership plan to ensure regular care and to get substantial discounts for your treatment. We offer 0% finance (subject to status) for treatment plans over £500 to help spread the cost.

General Dentistry Faqs

When should I bring my child to first visit the dentist?
You should bring your child to first see the dentist when their first tooth appears in the gum. We can check to see the health of the gums and see how the teeth are progressing. It’s a good idea to get children used to visiting the dentist from an early age so that they feel comfortable with the surroundings.
Are cosmetic dental treatments like teeth straightening and teeth whitening worth the money?
We can’t answer this question for you, but if you are suffering from low confidence because of your teeth or hide your smile because you’re embarrassed, it is good to know that there is a cosmetic dental treatment that can help. A beautiful smile looks stunning and will naturally draw people to you.

Certain treatments such as teeth straightening can also benefit your oral health because straight teeth are easier to keep clean and free from plaque which can cause tooth decay or gum disease. Teeth straightening also protects teeth from moving or being pushed out which can happen with misaligned or crooked teeth. If you’re worried about the cost of cosmetic dental treatments, talk to us about our 0% finance which can help with spreading the cost.

Why is my dental health so important?
Maintaining a good oral health is so important because you only get one set of adult teeth which need to last you a lifetime. Keeping your teeth clean and healthy will give you a lovely smile which will boost your confidence. Keeping teeth and gums healthy is also closely linked to your general health so with good care, you can help to prevent diseases like heart disease, strokes and Alzheimer’s from occurring.
