DENTAL IMPLANTS IN
Sandhurst & Camberley

Missing teeth can be distressing. It can affect your confidence to smile and it can also have a negative effect on your oral health as well as how you speak and eat.

Dental implants are a more permanent form of false teeth. They are an ideal solution as they are embedded into your jawbone so that they look and function like a natural tooth.

The dental implant is made up of a titanium post that is inserted into your jawbone and acts as your new replacement tooth root. An abutment is fitted to this which then secures the beautifully crafted crown and forms your new replacement tooth.

We have treated hundreds of delighted patients for dental implants throughout Camberley, Blackwater, Crowthorne, Yateley, Sandhurst and Surrey.

What is
involved?

A dental implant is a small titanium fitting that looks like a cylindrical screw and essentially becomes the root on which we can fit crowns or bridges depending on your treatment recommendations.

A small precision hole is made in your jawbone under local anaesthetic to ensure no discomfort and the implant is placed. You will then be given an appointment for a later date, sometimes several months, to ensure that the jawbone and implant have bonded and formed a strong base for your bridge or crown.

Why choose
dental implants?

A natural look

Dental implants are designed to look like real teeth and are colour-matched to blend in with your other teeth. There is no risk of your replacement teeth looking unnatural or fake.

Speak clearly

Dentures become loose over time and can affect your speech, dental implants, however, are permanently fixed in your mouth and will give you the confidence to speak as usual.

Eat your favourite foods

With dentures you will have to avoid certain hard foods. Chewing is sometimes painful. With dental implants, these problems are eliminated as your teeth are fixed to your jaw. You can eat whatever you like.

Long term solution

Dentures become loose and begin to slip over time meaning that they need replacing or repairing. Dental implants remain fixed and with good care and maintenance can last a lifetime.

Permanent solution

Unlike dentures which must be removed each evening and will in time, need replacing, dental implants are the only permanent way to replace missing teeth. Once fitted, they look and function like natural teeth.

Improve your face shape

With missing teeth, the jawbone starts to shrink, and this can lead to a sunken appearance in your face. Dental implants help to keep the jawbone structure in place and therefore retain your face shape.

Types of dental implants
at Academy Dental Care

The types of dental implants generally fall into whether you have one missing tooth or whether you have multiple missing teeth or have no teeth at all.

A single missing tooth

One missing tooth can be replaced with a single dental implant. A small hole is made into your jawbone using a local anaesthetic and the dental implant is inserted gently into your gum.

You will then be given a follow-up appointment which will be used to attach the crown or the tooth to the implant. Often this appointment can take place several weeks later to give the new implant a chance to fuse properly together with your jawbone.

Multiple missing teeth

If you have multiple missing or failing teeth, or if you have no teeth at all, a better option for you is all on 4 dental implants.

Using just 4 dental implants, a complete arch of new teeth can be inserted into your upper or lower jaw. All on 4 dental implants are a cost-effective option – they are cheaper and less invasive than having several single dental implants.

Dental implants
with dentures

You may choose to use mini dental implants to hold the dentures much more securely and comfortably. The added benefit is the bone will be preserved around the dental implant.

What are all-on-4 dental
implants

All-on-4 dental implants are a type of dental implant that are best suited to those patients who are missing multiple teeth or have no teeth at all.

We have treated hundreds of patients from Camberley, Blackwater, Yateley, Sandhurst, Crowthorne and throughout Berkshire who have opted for all-on-4 dental implants because they don’t want to wear dentures or are looking for a more permanent option to replace missing teeth.

All-on-4 dental implants are sometimes referred to as, Same Day Teeth, Teeth in a Day and Same Day Smile. This is because the surgery and new replacement teeth can all be carried out in just one day

Just like the single dental implant, all-on-4 dental implants consist of 3 parts:.

The implant itself which is embedded gently into the gum and acts as the new tooth root. With all-on-4 treatment there will be 4 dental implants which are inserted into the upper or lower jaw

An abutment which connects the dental implant to the new set of false teeth

Instead of a crown which is used for an individual tooth implant, all-on-4 dental implants have a bridge fitted to the abutment which supports a set of new prosthetic teeth for the upper or lower arch

Procedure for
all-on-4 dental implants In Sandhurst & Camberley

The process for all-on-4 dental implants starts with a free non-obligatory consultation

Initial Consultation

At your free consultation you will meet our leading dental implantologist who will talk you through the benefits and options available to you to replace missing teeth. Your teeth and mouth will be given a thorough examination and x-rays will be taken at this time.

Same Day Teeth Surgery

On the day of your all-on-4 dental implant surgery, you will be given a local anaesthetic so that you can not feel a thing. Any remaining teeth will be extracted. 4 dental implants are then gently placed into your upper or lower jaw and finally a temporary fixed bridge is then attached to your dental implants allowing you to leave the surgery with a new smile!

Healing

Whilst your gums and mouth will start to feel better in a day or two, it can take between 2 and 6 months for your dental implants to fuse to the jawbone. During this time, a bespoke bridge will be made for you.

Care and maintenance

It is important that you take time to look after your dental implants. Your dentist and hygienist will help provide tips on how you best care for them. Not only does detailed care give you a better oral hygiene, but it prolongs the life of your dental implants too.

Fitting of your bespoke restoration

Once we are confident that the implants have fused efficiently to the jawbone, you will be invited back to the surgery to have your permanent custom-made bridge fitted

Dental Implant
FAQs

How long do dental implants last?

On average, dental implants will last between 20 and 25 years, but with good care, there’s no reason why they can’t last a lifetime. You can prolong the longevity of your dental implants by maintaining a good oral hygiene. Regularly brush and floss your teeth and visit your dentist and hygienist every 6 to 12 months.

Can anyone have dental implants?

Most patients with healthy gums are suitable for dental implants. At your consultation we will assess your mouth to make sure that your gums are healthy, and you have enough jawbone to sustain dental implants.

If you are a smoker, we encourage you to give up before dental implant surgery because smoking will affect the success rate. Some patients who have certain illnesses or are taking certain medication will not be able to have dental implants, so it is important that you are honest with us when we discuss your medical history.

Are dental implants safe?

Yes. Dental implants have been used on hundreds of thousands of patients for over 30 years. Dental implants are considered a safe and effective way to replace missing teeth because they are made from titanium which are biocompatible with the human body.

Is everyone suitable for all-on-4 dental implants?

In general, most patients who have a good oral and general health will be suitable for all-on-4 dental implants. At our initial consultation, we will check on the health of your teeth and gums. We may also check your jawbone to ensure that you have enough bone to support dental implants. There are options available if you do not.

Does the procedure for Same Day Teeth hurt?

All-on-4 dental implants are designed to minimise pain. During the surgery you will not feel anything. You may experience some swelling or soreness as the local anaesthetic wears off, but this shouldn’t last long. Most patients are surprised at how quickly they recover, and many are back to their usual routines the next day.

Can I get all-on-4 dental implants for my upper and lower teeth?

Yes, you can. The all-on-4 dental implants are used to support either the upper or lower jaw, but you can have another set of 4 dental implants to support both. Speak to your dentist about this at your consultation.
